Preventive Dentistry Care
Preventive care is the foundation of our practice. As a patient at our practice, we will work with you to develop a home care program that will prevent the majority of common dental problems including cavities, how to take care of your gums, tooth decay, how to have healthy teeth and gums, and also talk about gum disease complications.
In addition to your home care routine, we recommend twice yearly examinations and cleanings two to four times per year to maintain your work and watch for any possible problems that could develop to catch them before they turn into big problems.
We also have a selection of preventive treatments that can decrease your risk of cavities and other problems even further. By combining excellent home care with preventive screenings and treatments, we can provide minimally invasive dentistry that keeps your mouth healthy and your smile beautiful.
How To Take Care Of Your Teeth
-- Preventive Home Care
When people think of dental care, the first thing that comes to mind is often the dentist office. In reality, the vast majority of the dental care and proper oral hygiene you will receive will take place in your home and be administered by you to assure healthy oral hygiene.
As elementary as brushing, flossing, and cleaning teeth might seem, they really are the basis of all preventive dental care. Unfortunately, many people aren’t brushing using proper technique resulting in poor oral hygiene. We can show you the right technique for brushing and flossing your teeth and even provide a hands-on demonstration to make sure you are getting the most out of this important routine. Additionally, we can review the toothpaste and mouthwash you are using and make recommendations. We can also discuss the use of other at-home products, such as those containing xylitol, to strengthen your teeth and prevent cavities.
Part of good oral health is taking good care of your overall health. We will discuss your current habits and find ways to increase the amount of nutrient-rich foods your family is eating to prevent getting cavities in teeth regularly. Getting vitamin- and mineral-rich vegetables, grass fed meats, and healthy pasturized dairy into your family’s diet helps your entire body – including your teeth and gums – stay strong. Some health concerns related to dietary problems, such as acid reflux, can have a detrimental effect on your oral health, and we will work with you to get this under control. Sometimes a simple change in your diet will provide a considerable improvement.
We have found that xylitol is very effective in reducing the amount of bacteria in your mouth that would otherwise contribute to problems like bad breath, cavities, and periodontal disease. Xylitol is available in a variety of forms, including gums, rinses, and toothpastes. We will discuss how xylitol can help you and recommend products that would be right for you and your family.
In-Office Quality Dental Care Preventive Treatments
Brushing and flossing are important for ensuring quality dental care, but it’s practically impossible for a toothbrush and dental floss to completely remove all the plaque that can accumulate on your teeth, particularly between your teeth and under the gum line. Gentle and thorough dental cleanings by skilled and talented dental hygienists two to four times per year will remove the rest of the tartar for a clean, fresh start helping prevent problems with teeth before they develop.
Our examinations often include the use of digital x-rays. These images allow us to see what’s happening beneath the enamel of your teeth and underneath your gums. We can spot cavities that brushing your teeth can't resolve and find them in the very early stage watching for any signs of tooth dental decay.
When we perform your examination, we will also be checking the condition of your gums and other soft tissues for signs of periodontal disease or any other health conditions. We can also discuss common dental procedures to resolve current problems and discuss the possible need for fluoride exposure and preventive resin restorations to protect the surface of your teeth from cavities.
We know you have better things to do than spend your valuable time in a dentist chair. With excellent preventive care, we can keep your office visits to a minimum. Call us today to schedule an appointment for help with dental care so we can set up a comprehensive preventive care program for your entire family totally eliminating gum disease problems before they start.
