My teeth are looking yellow. Do you recommend teeth whitening?

Many factors can contribute to your teeth becoming yellow including smoking, drinking certain beverages such as coffee or tea, and the aging process. Teeth whitening may be an appropriate solution for improving the appearance of your smile depending on the cause of the discoloration and the condition of your teeth.

Whether your teeth are yellowed from surface staining or from the dentin (the tooth material just below the surface enamel) changing as you get older, professional teeth whitening can improve the appearance of your teeth, making them brighter and whiter. Teeth whitening can remove stains and bleach the enamel, lessening the yellowed appearance.

Some discolorations, particularly those caused by certain medications such as tetracycline, can be difficult to reverse. If your teeth have a gray appearance due to tetracycline use, our Elk Grove dentists can discuss your options and the results you may be able to get, based on your particular situation.

If you have stained, yellowed, or discolored teeth and are interested in improving the look of your smile through professional teeth whitening, please call our office to schedule an examination and consultation. We will be happy to determine if you are a candidate for teeth whitening and review the different whitening procedures we have to offer.
