Why doesn't my insurance company pay for more than two cleanings per year when you are recommending more?

Return to FAQs

Most dental insurance companies base their coverage around the recommendations of the Academy of General Dentistry, which says to get professional cleanings at least twice per year. Like any other insurance company, dental insurance only wants to pay the minimum amount necessary. While cleanings twice a year are appropriate for most healthy adults, if we are treating periodontal disease or another dental health problem, additional cleanings may be necessary.

If you need more dental care than your insurance company will pay for, we can help you find out what your insurance will cover and discuss your options.
